Cronus/cannibalism?

Cronus is a titan in green mythology. He came to power by castrating his father, Uranus. what a way to go? His offspring were of the first Olympians, and Cronus ate each of them as they were born to protect himself, probably assuming they would do to him what he did to his own father.  His wife, Rhea, tricked him into eating a rock and their son Zeus grew up to fight against Cronus and the titans, banishing them to Tartarus in the underworld.

The Romans adopted Cronus as their god Saturn, The reign of Saturn was called the golden age of abundance and peace, I guess he really changed from his baby eating ways, huh? I wonder if he ate them purely because he was afraid they would turn on him, (which, spoiler alert he was right) or maybe he liked the taste of human flesh, which is disturbing to think about. The ancient Greeks were just as horrified by cannibalism as we are today, but there were still a surprising amount of myths including it. From being cannibals to forcing cannibalism, its a recurring theme. For example, Tantalus fed his own son, Pelops to the gods. All the gods aside from Demeter refused to eat the meal as they could smell the meat, but Demeter who was still grieving over his daughter Persephone’s death, ate. when the gods brought Pelops back he was missing a shoulder. Demeter had to build him a new shoulder out of ivory.

in fact, it was common among titans to eat people and children. they dismembered Dionysus when he was a baby. it seems funny to me that the gods, the people they worshiped were depicted as such horrible creatures who ate babies. Cronus particularly, who did it for self preservation, but then was cast up to be some great god of agriculture. did they just forget what he did? and I wonder if him and his wife got divorced because I’m pretty sure that is grounds for divorce. if my husband ate my babies i would probably eat him, but not really i would feed him to a bear or something because eating people is frowned Upon, but accidentally putting them in a room with a bear is probably OK.  In fact, its probably more than an OK punishment for eating babies. I wonder how many babies he ate. six, the answer is six. he got away with eating six kids and all that happened to him was he ate a rock. and then y’know was banished by his surviving son. I think he was just jealous his son was gonna be better then him, someone has daddy issues.

if Cronus got away with cannibalism, I wonder what else the gods and titans got away with in Greek mythology. and if they could write about it it must have happened at least once in that time. I wonder what’s the story behind that one. whodunit. in conclusion, Greek mythology was pretty messed up.
